Lesson 1: The Blessing Of Submission

Study Guide / Outline

Introduction

Submission is a spiritual principle often misunderstood as weakness, but Biblically it is a mark of strength, maturity, and alignment with divine order. God uses submission to shape the believer’s heart, align them with His authority, and position them to receive protection, maturity, and blessing.

Section 1: Submission Begins with the Heart

  • Description: True submission starts internally with a renewed heart that recognizes and yields to God’s authority.
  • Main Points:
    • Submission Is Maturity – Submission is not defeat or weakness, but a sign of spiritual strength.
    • Motives Matter – God examines why we submit, not just the outward act.
    • Circumcision of the Heart – A renewed heart submits willingly, not reluctantly.
  • Scripture References: Romans 12:1-2, 1 Corinthians 13:3, Deuteronomy 30:6, Colossians 2:11

Section 2: Divine Order and Godly Authority

  • Description: Submission functions within God’s divine order, honoring roles of authority established by Him for mutual benefit and spiritual alignment.
  • Main Points:
    • Submission Yields Divine Alignment – God operates through order, not independence.
    • Love and Trust Enable Submission – True submission flows from relational trust and love.
    • Spiritual Authority Requires Discernment – Leaders must meet biblical standards.
  • Scripture References: Ephesians 5:21–25, 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Romans 13:1–7

Section 3: Spiritual Leadership and Fathering

  • Description: Submitting to spiritual leaders is essential, especially those who walk with integrity, transparency, and accountability.
  • Main Points:
    • Fathers vs. Instructors – Many teach, but few lead with personal investment and care.
    • True Covering Requires Proximity – Submission includes allowing leaders to know and speak into your life.
    • Leadership Comes with Responsibility – Authority must be exercised with grace and maturity.
  • Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 4:15, Proverbs 27:17, Hebrews 13:17

Section 4: Blessings Found in Submission

  • Description: Submission opens the door to God’s protection, direction, maturity, and anointing.
  • Main Points:
    • Protection Through Submission – God’s covering requires our surrender to His authority.
    • Direction and Wisdom – Submission grants access to counsel and divine insight.
    • Growth through Submission – Yielding to elders grows humility and spiritual maturity.
  • Scripture References: James 4:7, Proverbs 24:6, 1 Peter 5:5

Section 5: Honor and Anointing

  • Description: What you honor, you attract. Submission positions you to receive from the anointing above you.
  • Main Points:
    • Oil Flows Down – Anointing and blessing come through alignment under godly authority.
    • Respect Invites Impartation – Submission to the right authority attracts spiritual impartation.
    • Honor Multiplies Blessing – Consistently honoring divine order results in increase.
  • Scripture References: Psalm 133:2, Luke 7:37–38, Matthew 10:41

Section 6: The Submitted You, Not the Stronger You

  • Description: God doesn’t need your strength—He needs your surrender. Submission makes room for the Spirit to operate through your life.
  • Main Points:
    • God Seeks the Submitted Version of You – Submission reveals the new man in Christ.
    • Self-Reliance Resists Grace – Divine ability flows through yielded vessels.
    • Paul’s Descent into Greatness – As Paul matured in Christ, he increasingly rejected his own strength and credentials, embracing humility and submission as the path to true spiritual authority.
  • Scripture References: Philippians 3:7–8, 2 Corinthians 12:9–10, Romans 6:13

Conclusion

Submission is not a burden but a blessing, aligning the believer with God’s protection, purpose, and power. When practiced from a renewed heart, it leads to maturity, direction, and supernatural empowerment.
