Lesson 7: The Existence of God – How We Know God Is Real

Built Into the Heart of Every Human

One of the most undeniable truths in all creation is this: God exists. His fingerprints are everywhere—from the heavens above to the conscience within. Even before we open a Bible, the evidence of God is already speaking. It speaks through creation. It speaks through our inner sense of right and wrong. And most of all, it speaks through the Word of God and the witness of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 1:19–20 declares,

“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes… have been clearly perceived… so they are without excuse.”

God is not hiding. He is constantly revealing Himself. Whether a person lives in a city or in a remote village, whether they’ve been raised in church or never heard the gospel, there is an inner witness that tells every human heart, “There is a God, and you are accountable to Him.”

This is where faith begins—not in proof, but in response to revelation.

Faith Comes Before Full Understanding

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us,

“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”

Notice the order: believe that He exists, then draw near. That’s why faith is essential. In the Word of Faith walk, we understand that faith isn’t blind—it’s based on truth. It’s based on revelation. And when that revelation comes, faith responds.

We don’t require complete understanding to believe. We believe because the Spirit has revealed. Some demand absolute intellectual proof of God before they’ll accept Him. But the reality is that God has chosen to reveal Himself in a way that requires faith, not just reason.

This doesn’t mean our faith is irrational. It means that it’s spiritually alive. It doesn’t begin with human logic—it begins with a heart that’s open to receive what God has already made clear.

The Inner Witness of the Human Spirit

Romans 2:15 tells us that even Gentiles “show that the work of the law is written on their hearts.” This is the inner voice—the conscience—that God placed inside every person. People may deny God with their words, but deep down, something inside them already knows He is real.

This inner witness is not salvation. But it prepares the heart for the truth. It’s part of the grace of God reaching out to humanity before the message of the gospel ever arrives. In the Word of Faith perspective, we understand that the Spirit of God is drawing people even before they fully understand. When we preach, we’re not trying to force belief—we’re awakening what God has already placed within.

As leaders, we should have confidence that when we preach the Word, the Holy Spirit is confirming it inwardly. He’s not just working in the atmosphere—He’s working in hearts.

The Revelation of God Through Creation

Psalm 19:1–2 says,

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech…”

Every sunrise, every mountain, every ocean wave is a sermon from God. Creation is God’s billboard. It doesn’t give us all the details about who God is, but it makes one thing unmistakably clear: There is a Creator, and He is powerful.

Creation alone doesn’t tell us the gospel, but it invites us to search, to hunger, and to receive what the written Word reveals in fullness.

In our preaching, it’s important to remind people of this. So many are trapped in man-made philosophies because they’ve disconnected from the wonder and witness of creation. But the moment we remind them that this entire world is a product of divine design, the Holy Spirit begins to draw them back to truth.

The Authority of Scripture Confirms God’s Reality

While conscience and creation point to the existence of God, Scripture reveals Him by name, nature, and purpose. The Word of God gives us the full picture: not just that God exists, but who He is, how He works, and what He has promised.

As Kingdom leaders, we base our faith not just on the fact that there is a God—but on what God has said about Himself in His Word. That’s where true faith is born. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” When we hear the gospel and believe it, we step into relationship with the God who has been calling to us all along.

That’s why Scripture is not just helpful—it’s essential. It turns awareness into relationship. It turns the idea of God into fellowship with God.

God Still Reveals Himself Today

The God who revealed Himself in creation, conscience, and Scripture continues to reveal Himself through the Holy Spirit. We don’t serve a silent God. We serve a God who speaks to His people, leads His Church, and manifests His power.

In the Word of Faith tradition, we affirm that the Holy Spirit bears witness in our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16). We also believe the Spirit speaks, leads, confirms, and reveals truth in real time.

This means that as we teach and lead others, we should always be aware that God is actively revealing Himself. When someone hears a Word-based message with an open heart, the Holy Spirit confirms it. That’s when faith rises. That’s when conviction comes. That’s when transformation begins.

Rejecting God Is a Choice

Some may say, “If God is real, why doesn’t He prove Himself to everyone?” But Scripture makes it clear: God has revealed enough for every person to respond. The problem is not a lack of evidence—it’s a refusal to receive it.

Romans 1:21 says,

“Although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking…”

People reject God not because there isn’t enough proof, but because their hearts are hardened. In Word of Faith, we believe every person has the ability to respond to the gospel. God doesn’t force anyone to believe. He gives grace, truth, and a clear witness—but He honors our free will. That’s why we preach with boldness and pray with fervency, knowing that the Spirit is working, but people must respond.

A Confident Faith

Our belief in the existence of God is not built on blind faith. It’s built on revelation, confirmed by experience, and proven by the power of His Word. We’ve seen Him heal. We’ve watched Him deliver. We’ve heard His voice. We’ve seen the fruit of His presence.

We don’t just believe God exists—we know Him. And that makes all the difference.

As you lead others, don’t shy away from declaring that God is real. Speak it with confidence. Teach it with conviction. Let your life be the evidence. You’re not asking people to believe in a theory. You’re inviting them into relationship with the Living God, who has made Himself known and is ready to do it again.
