Lesson 9: Jesus Our Prophet — Revealing the Will of the Father

Christ the Living Word Who Speaks, Guides, and Establishes Truth

In the Old Testament, prophets were the voice of God to the people. They carried divine messages that revealed God’s will, exposed sin, declared judgment, and foretold redemption. Prophets stood between heaven and earth, delivering truth from God’s heart to man’s ears. But no prophet fully revealed God—until Jesus.

Jesus Christ is not just a prophet—He is the Prophet. He is the fulfillment of every prophetic utterance, the embodiment of every divine word, and the voice of God made flesh. His role as Prophet was not a temporary assignment—it continues even now, as He speaks to His Church by the Spirit and leads us into all truth. As pastors, understanding Christ as our Prophet sharpens our ears, strengthens our calling, and deepens our dependence on His voice.

Promised by Moses, Fulfilled in Christ

In Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses prophesied, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear.” This was no ordinary prediction—it was a prophetic declaration of the Messiah’s role as God’s ultimate spokesperson.

Acts 3:22–23 confirms that this prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus. He was the Prophet like Moses—but greater. Moses delivered the law. Jesus fulfilled it. Moses spoke from Mount Sinai. Jesus spoke from within the hearts of men. Moses wrote tablets of stone. Jesus writes on human hearts.

Christ’s words did not simply reveal God’s will—they were God’s will. In John 12:49–50, Jesus says, “For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak… Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

He never spoke presumptuously. He never misspoke. Every word was Spirit and life (John 6:63).

The Voice of the Lord Made Flesh

John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus didn’t come just with a message—He was the message. Every word He spoke was a perfect revelation of the Father’s heart.

Hebrews 1:1–2 says, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.” This means Jesus is the final, full revelation. The Old Testament gave glimpses. Jesus gave the full picture. Every prophet spoke part—Jesus spoke the whole.

To hear Jesus is to hear the Father. To see Him is to see what God thinks, values, and intends. He is not just the messenger of the covenant—He is the mediator of it.

His Words Carried Authority, Power, and Spirit

The words of Jesus were unlike any ever spoken. In Luke 4:32, it says, “They were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority.” In Matthew 7:29, people marveled that “He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

When Jesus spoke, demons obeyed (Mark 1:25). When He spoke, storms were calmed (Mark 4:39). When He spoke, bodies were healed (Luke 13:12). When He spoke, death was reversed (John 11:43). His words were not empty—they were creative. They carried the same power that spoke the world into existence.

And He still speaks today. Revelation 2–3 repeats the phrase, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, continues to speak through the written Word, through prophetic insight, and through the inner witness of the Spirit.

Jesus Revealed the Heart and Will of the Father

Many people have a distorted image of God because they interpret Him through life, religion, or trauma. But Jesus clears the fog. In John 14:9, He says, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” Jesus didn’t come to change God’s mind about us—He came to change our mind about God.

In everything He said and did, He revealed God’s will:

  • Healing the sick revealed the Father’s compassion.
  • Forgiving sinners revealed the Father’s mercy.
  • Challenging the religious revealed the Father’s righteousness.
  • Teaching truth revealed the Father’s mind.
  • Laying down His life revealed the Father’s love.

As pastors, we must be rooted in this: God is like Jesus. If your image of God contradicts what you see in Christ, it’s time to realign. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). He is the Prophet of perfect revelation.

The Prophetic Ministry of Christ Continues Through the Church

While Jesus fulfilled the role of Prophet uniquely, He now speaks through His Body. Ephesians 4:11 tells us He gave “some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.” The prophetic ministry did not end—it was multiplied.

Revelation 19:10 says, “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Every time you preach Jesus, you’re releasing prophetic truth. Every time you declare the Gospel, you’re revealing the heart of God. You don’t have to wear a title to speak prophetically. You just have to carry His word in truth and power.

As pastors, we are called to be the mouthpiece of heaven—to speak truth in love, to declare what God is saying, and to equip the saints to hear His voice for themselves.

Ministry Application for Pastors

Let your preaching reflect the prophetic nature of Christ. Don’t merely inform—reveal. Don’t just communicate—declare. Preach as one who has heard from God. Speak the Word boldly, knowing it carries Spirit and life.

Equip your people to hear God’s voice. The same Jesus who spoke to the disciples speaks by His Spirit to every believer. Create a culture where people value the Word, discern the Spirit, and follow divine direction.

Keep your ears tuned. The Prophet still speaks. He may not thunder from a mountaintop—but His whisper is just as powerful. Be sensitive. Be surrendered. Be prophetic—not in performance, but in presence.

Declaration of Faith

“I boldly declare that Jesus is the Prophet of God—my divine Teacher, the Voice of the Father, and the Living Word. He speaks, leads, and reveals all truth. His voice guides my life and shapes my ministry. I preach what He is saying, declare what He has revealed, and lead by the wisdom that flows from His mouth. I hear His voice clearly and follow it faithfully. His Word is in my heart and on my lips, and I speak with boldness, truth, and grace.”
